Bangladesh interim government cancels Sheikh Hasina’s passport

The Bangladesh interim government has cancelled the passports of 97 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Among these, 22 passports were revoked due to allegations of involvement in enforced disappearances, and 75 were cancelled due to allegations of involvement in the July killings.

Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumdar shared this information during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday evening (January 7).

In response to journalists' questions, Majumdar stated that the Indian government is aware of the matter and has issued travel documents accordingly. The Passport Department informed us about the cancellation of 75 passports. Additionally, 22 more passports were cancelled due to involvement in disappearances and killings. However, detailed information on whose passports have been cancelled is not available.

These revocations mark a significant escalation in the ongoing investigation into the violence, raising concerns about the rights of Sheikh Hasina and others.
